About me

<<< That's me playing my first gig at Bootleggers Bar in San Clemente, CA. I was 18 and figured out that's the quickest way to get in to bars under 21 - be in the band!

I started playing drums in the early ’90s, inspired by the bands that shaped an entire era—Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Rush. By the late ’90s, I was gigging throughout south Orange County with a local cover band, playing everything from Fleetwood Mac and Bob Seger to The Clash. We performed in bars around SoCal, including Bootleggers, China Beach, and even played the San Clemente Street Festival’s 2nd stage in front of thousands. We recorded a demo and even competed in a Battle of the Bands in Corona, CA, where we did really poorly! Good times...

In the early 2000s, I joined Wooden Ships, a folk-rock band performing at coffeehouses, markets, and the Dana Point Festival of Whales. This band taught me dynamics and how to serve the music, instead of just playing like Animal from The Muppet's.

Over the years, I’ve tracked drums for demos, played countless live sets, jammed with local musicians, led drum circles on the beaches of San Diego, and even won a talent show on a Carnival Cruise ship playing solo drums on the ship kit in front of a packed theater.

These days, I pocket best in funk, yacht rock, rock ballads, and progressive rock, blending feel, creativity, and discipline.

I’m actively looking to meet local musicians around Wilson County and Middle Tennessee - Mt. Juliet, Lebanon, Gallatin, Murfreesboro, and beyond. I’m available for jams, fill-in work, church performances, cover bands, or session drumming for live shows or recordings. As a business owner, husband, and dad, I’m taking on part-time opportunities only - no touring schedules.

Work ethic is simple: show up early, serve the music, and enjoy the show.

Influences

My influences span decades and genres.
Metal: Megadeth, Metallica, Ghost, Volbeat, Ozzy/Black Sabbath, Death
Rock: Steely Dan, Pearl Jam, Primus, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Aerosmith, Journey, ZZ Top

Classic: Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Beatles
Punk: Bad Religion, Pennywise, The Offspring

Country/Blues: Stevie Ray Vaughn (the GOAT), Lynyrd Skynrd

R&B & Funk: James Brown, Michael Jackson, Chilli Peppers, Earth/Wind/Fire, and of course Tower of Power
Jazz: Dave Brubeck (even if jazz isn’t my main lane). Take Five and Blue Ronda are just choice.

Favorite Legends

My favorite drummers—Neil Peart (obviously), Jeff Porcaro, Steve Gadd, Buddy Rich, Ash Soan, Ringo Starr, Nick Mason, Bernard Purdie Jimmy Chamberlain, Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan, and El Estepario—reflect a wide range of styles and philosophies. Early on, I studied rudimental snare fundamentals with Michael Ellerby of the Kingsmen, who helped shape my technical foundation.

Equipment

My studio kit is an 8-piece Tama Starclassic (Walnut/Birch) on a Gibraltar rack with a mix of Zildjian, Paiste, and Sabian cymbals. I use Iron Cobra pedals, Evans heads, and Vater or Vic Firth sticks. For live work, I bring a Gretsch Catalina Maple, configured anywhere from a tight 4-piece to a fuller 7-piece depending on the gig.
